DANCING
I have been dancing off and on for over 40 years but never seriously.
I used to be quite keen on Ballroom Jive but didn't take it up much other than just enjoying the dancing. A couple of years ago I got into Rock and Roll and like that most now.
DANCE SESSIONS at Blandford on some Saturday Evenings. The first is on Saturday the 7th May 2011
I shall DJ a social dance session on some Saturday evenings at the Royal British Legion in Blandford Forum, Dorset.
We start at 7:30 pm with a 30 minute lesson for any beginners. If there are none we'll get on with the dancing. I propose to put the emphasis on Jive and Rock and Roll. We may do a little bit of Ballroom and Latin and the odd stroll and more popular sequence dances too.
We may do rock and roll or strolling lessons later in the evening if that's what people want.
The good news is that this is FREE!
RBL members and their partners get free entry but guests, who must be signed in, are invited to put between £1 and £2 in the box to help defray RBL costs. Drinks are at a reasonable price IMHO.
Guests who arrive without a member can gain entry normally by coming in through the main door and ahead of them on the right hand side of the door facing them is an intercom button that they can press to let the bar staff know there is someone trying to get in. They will still need to sign in, usually at the bar.
Members like me can sign in any number of guests.
Dancing in the Blandford Area
We've been along to The Villager Dance Club where they ran an 8 week beginners course late in 2010. They're hopefully running more courses in 2011. Certainly good value for money and is run at Pimperne. See Villager Dance Club
Also on a Tuesday evening there's a choice of Salsa at Bryanston Club or Modern Jive in the Corn Exchange.
There are also adult Ballroom/Latin lessons at Studio B on a Thursday evening.
Dance Wear in Dorset
I have no connection with these places but have found them to provide good stuff.
Dance Shoes (They do clothing too) I use Dance Mania a shop in Wimborne Road, Poole they also have an internet service - see dancemania.biz where we've bought mens and ladies dance shoes.
We wanted some ladies dresses for Rock and Roll and Dazzle in Boscombe was recommended to us.
We went along and were not disappointed. A good selection, so good we bought 2 dresses and the frilly petticoats to match. They have more clothes of course. See Qype - Dazzle, Boscombe.
